“Tyla deserved Best African Grammy award” – Daddy Freeze

“Tyla deserved Best African Grammy award” – Daddy Freeze

Media personality and convener of the Free the Sheeple movement, Daddy Freeze, has declared that South African Grammy winner, Tyla deserved to win the award.

He said that the 22-year-old singer, who was nominated in the same category for the 66th Grammy Awards, defeated Nigerian artists to win the Best African Music award.

Recall that on Sunday, during the 66th Grammy Awards, Nigerian performers Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr were unsuccessful in winning any prizes.

Some angry Nigerian music fans accused the Recording Academy of collusion in the selection of Tyla’s “Water” over popular songs by Omo Baba Olowo and Odogwu.

However, Freeze maintained that Tyla’s 2024 Grammy win was fully earned and differed from the viewpoint of many Nigerian fans.

He said;

“Tyla’s Grammy win over Nigerian artists was not ojoro [scam]. I don’t see the ojoro. I’m struggling to see the ojoro.

Globally, in my opinion, ‘Water’ was a slightly bigger song [than Nigerian songs nominated]. It doesn’t mean those songs were not big. They were very big. It’s just that ‘Water’ has more vitality. It is massive on Tiktok.”
“My father said I’m still a legend despite Grammy loss” – Davido

“My father said I’m still a legend despite Grammy loss” – Davido

Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has declared that having a nomination for the just-finished 66th Grammy Awards is reason enough for him to be proud of himself.

Recall that he did not win an award at the Grammy Awards, which took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, despite receiving three nominations.

First-time Grammy nominee Davido disclosed that, even in the face of defeat, his millionaire father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke, sent him words of encouragement.

In his most recent interview with Rolling Stone, the “Unavailable” singer talked about his rise to fame and said that his father told him he was still a legend.

He said;

“Being nominated alone is enough to make me proud of myself. I just want my song to be heard on the radio once or twice in the beginning, but for it to transcend to this is just amazing and God’s doing.

I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and he was like ‘Son no matter what happens, you are still a legend’. So yeah, he is a big fan.”
Corruption allegations against Gbajabiamila baseless — Speaker

Corruption allegations against Gbajabiamila baseless — Speaker

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called on security agencies to diligently investigate allegations leveled against the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The speaker gave the charge on Thursday while addressing a press conference on the state of the nation.

Gbajabiamila has been at the centre of allegations of graft involving suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

Addressing the citizens, Abbas urged Nigerians to desist from fake news but welcomed constructive criticism to make government officials more accountable.

He, however, pointed out that the allegations against Gbajabiamila are capable of undermining the nation’s democracy.

He said, “There has been a rise in defamation campaigns on social media involving the deliberate dissemination of false and misleading information with the intent to harm the reputation of individuals or organisations. These campaigns often target political opponents, seeking to undermine their credibility, integrity, and public trust.

“The recent unjustified and baseless allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, point to the danger of an unfettered and unaccountable social media. Such acts not only undermine the integrity of our democracy but also erode the fabric of our national unity. Yet, Femi is just one of millions of Nigerians who suffer cyberbullying and coordinated campaigns of defamation daily. Too many victims are not as powerful as him to defend themselves.

“Those of us who have worked with him for over a decade can attest to his patriotism and integrity. His willingness to voluntarily subject himself to investigation by all security and law enforcement agencies demonstrates his rectitude and honour.

“I urge the security agencies to work diligently and swiftly to investigate all matters he has raised in his letter to them and inform Nigerians of their findings. If not found guilty, these agencies must fish out those responsible for the character assassination and ensure they are brought before the law.

“It is most unfortunate that someone who has, over the years, built a reputation through hard work and commitment to service, should be damaged by unscrupulous elements. The consistent attempt to pull him down for purely political or personal reasons and without consequence is deeply deplorable.”

Breaking News: Police declare Bauchi cleric, Abdulaziz, wanted

Breaking News: Police declare Bauchi cleric, Abdulaziz, wanted

The Bauchi State Police Command has declared a cleric in the state, Idris Abdulaziz, wanted.

This is disclosed in a Special Police Gazette made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday.

The police bulletin which was through the command Criminal Investigation Department, displaye the picture and details of Abdulaziz and pledged reward for anyone who assist in his arrest.

According to the bulletin, Abdulaziz is declared wanted for contempt of court.

When contacted for comment on the development, Abdulaziz’s lawyer, Mr. Ahmad Musa, said the declaration by the police is not something new as the state government is using state resources to suppress the voice of the opposition.

He said, “This is not something new, Malam Idris Abdulaziz is the only person speaking the truth to power. The state government is using state resources to suppress him and silence him, which they will fail.”

Our correspondent reported that Musa had accused the Bauchi State Government of using the state judicial branch to politically witch-hunt his client.

He said that on Monday, the state government through the office of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hassan El-Yakub, filed fresh charges at the Chief Magistrates Court, Bauchi, against the wanted cleric.

He said, “This is coming week after my client went into exile after security agents raided his Dutsen Tanshi residence in the Bauchi metropolis on January 24, to execute a search warrant.

“Abdulaziz left Bauchi State to flee persecution and arbitrary arrest and detention by the Bauchi government following trumped-up charges accusing him of committing blasphemy against religious creed. He has successfully left Bauchi to a safer place.”.

The Islamic cleric has denied charges against him by the state government of “inciting disturbances, insulting or inciting contempt of religious creed.”

“The case went from the Upper Sharia Court 1, Bauchi State to High Court, Bauchi and now it is properly before the Court of Appeal, Jos Division,” Musa explained.

Musa alleged that the twist of events in the case against his client has further exposed the political inclination of the state government to use the state judicial branch to persecute Abdulaziz.

Abdulaziz is a popular Islamic cleric based in the Dutsen Tanshi area of the Bauchi metropolis.

His ordeals began last April when he told a gathering that he does not need the support of any person when in difficult times, not even Prophet Muhammad, but only God.

“In difficult times I don’t need the support of Ibrahim Niase, Abdulkadir Jelani, Ahmad Tijjani (Sufi scholars), and even Prophet Muhammad except for Allah,” Abdulaziz, a strong Sunni Muslim said in his lecture on the oneness of God.

The comments generated controversy in the state and beyond. While his brethren in the Sunni sect supported him, some of his rivals from the Sufi sect have called for his prosecution, accusing him of disrespecting a religious creed.

The state government subsequently took over the case and prosecuted him.
Sen. Ubah celebrates YPP’s victory in Anambra Federal Constituencies rerun elections

Sen. Ubah celebrates YPP’s victory in Anambra Federal Constituencies rerun elections

Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, member representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has expressed gratitude to the electorate for ensuring victory for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the Feb. 3 rerun elections in parts of the state.

Ubah made this commendation while reacting to the outcome of the rerun elections in Nnewi on Sunday.

Recall that in the rerun election for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo, YPP candidate, Mr Peter Uzokwe, displaced Mr Uche Elodimuo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to emerge the lawmaker representing the constituency.

In Orumba North/Orumba South Federal Constituency, YPP’s Chinwe Nnabuife defeated Mr Okwudili Ezenwankwo of the Peoples Democratic Party to retain her seat.

Ubah, who described the election as a foretaste of the 2025 governorship contest, said it was a show of how much people believed in his contributions to the development of Anambra as a private citizen and a Senator.

He said even though he was now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he was able to help his former party, the YPP, to win two Federal Constituencies in an APGA-dominated state.

“I am delighted with the result of the rerun election in Anambra, it was double victory for me but more importantly, it shows we are a force to reckon with.

“Winning election is not about deploying resources on election day, as a private citizen I have always been with my people, as a senator I am working for them, my impact is all over the place,” he said.

Ubah commended the security agencies for their roles in ensuring that the rerun election went peacefully.

“Their presence was good, they did not harass or intimidate anybody, they ensured that everything went well, so, I thank them,” he said.
